How to Find College Information

It is important to find out information about a college prior to seeking admission. There are several ways to find useful college information including: (1) College websites: college websites contain a lot of interesting information about the institution. Often, they have statistical information about the student body, a description of the courses offered, biographies on the professors and information about extracurricular activities. (2) College visits: if you are interested in an online college then take a thorough look at their website. If you are looking at a traditional college then one of the best ways to learn about the school is to go visit. A college admissions counselor or student volunteer will take you around the campus. As you tour the school you will be provided with information about the school and you will have a chance to ask questions. Some schools even let prospective students sit in on a class. (3) Independent sources: Each year, various sources such as U.S. News and World Report, Princeton Review and others, put out information about the different colleges in the United States. This information is published independently of the colleges and is, therefore, worth considering before you make a decision about where to attend. (4) Talking with students and alumni: Current students and alumni of the college are, perhaps, the best resource available to you. As an applicant you should talk to students who currently attend or recently attended the college to find out what they thought about the quality of the education, the customer service and other features of the school. After you have gathered all of your college information then you will be ready to think about where to apply and ultimately where to enroll in school.
